What is Evidence-Based Medicine?

Evidence-Based Medicine is a systematic approach to clinical problem-solving which allows the integration of the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values.

AAPM&R Evidence-Based Resources and Tools

The following tools have been developed and/or evaluated, and vetted by the EBP Committees:

  • Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • AAPM&R Quality Glossary: Reference guide to help understand terms on the Quality & Research pages.
  • AAPM&R Quality Liaison Tool: This document is utilized by AAPM&R members who attend meetings/workgroups on the Academy’s behalf. Given the breadth of the specialty, this document provides liaisons with key talking points to assist them with advocating on behalf of Physiatry.
  • AAPM&R Quality Liaison Reporting Form: Liaisons who participate in any activity on behalf of the Academy are asked to complete this form.
  • Guideline Development Participation Criteria: This prioritization tool is utilized internally by the EBP and CPG Committee to evaluate and vet the Academy’s participation in external guideline development workgroups.
  • Performance Measure Participation Criteria: This prioritization tool is utilized internally by the EBP and PMC Committees to evaluate and vet the Academy’s participation in external performance measure development workgroups.
  • AGREE II Tool: This tool is utilized by the CPG Committee for endorsement of practice guidelines.
  • Levels of Evidence & Grades of Recommendation: This tool is utilized by the Evidence Committee to help standardize the Academy’s review of evidence and establish levels of evidence for work products.
