AAPM&R National Grand Rounds Series

Education

AAPM&R's free webinar series, National Grand Rounds, connects physiatrists of all specializations, from across the country, for stimulating discourse on topics that represent the intellectual, practical and/or spiritual aspects of the specialty. Under the direction of the Medical Education Committee, this monthly forum will include the presentation of a topic of broad or in-depth focus that serves to bring together physiatrists via a virtual platform.

Examples of topics include telehealth and the evolution of patient care during the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of mentorship, how much physiatrists have to offer to cancer patients and survivors and much more.

AAPM&R National Grand Rounds: Assistive Technologies for the Consumer: Showcasing the Latest Technologies for Consumer Accessibility

Wednesday, September 13th, from 7 - 8 PM (CST)

Assistive technologies continue to revolutionize consumer accessibility within the realm of physical medicine and rehabilitation. New consumer devices allow for independent access for most every user regardless of physical abilities, with no additional cost. This is characterized by built-in accessibility features which include voice control, switch control, mouse control, head control, and even basic eye control. During this special Grand Rounds event, James Gardner will discuss how low to mid-cost devices on top of the built-in accessibility features allow users to have a high-level of efficiency with their technology use. This high efficiency allows them to access technology in a way that can promote more successful return to work, school and social participation for people of all abilities.

Faculty:

  • James E. Gardner, MD: Disclosed no relevant financial relationships.
  • Sunil Sabharwal, MD: Royalities from Demos Publishing; board member, American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
