The Academy is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for our AAPM&R Resident Retreat: Learn and Connect, a course designed for PGY2 residents. This year we are expanding to two iterations of the same course to allow more residents to attend.  They will be held May 17-18, 2025 and May 31-June 1, 2025 outside Chicago. These courses provide a highly interactive and hands-on experience for up to 60 participants per course, taught by national leaders and mentors in PM&R. There is no registration fee, and a $500 travel stipend is included.

Overview

This in-person interactive event will offer PGY2 residents a unique opportunity to explore the breadth of PM&R through hands-on training, interactive case studies, and small group discussions with national leaders and mentors across the specialty. With an emphasis on experiential learning (not lectures), this course will delve into a variety of topics that most residents get exposed to following their PGY-2 year including electrodiagnostics, interventional pain and spine, inpatient consults, prosthetics and orthotics, pediatric rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, and procedures in ultrasound and spasticity.

This weekend event will offer attendees an opportunity to connect with colleagues and mentors from across the country and learn about AAPM&R and how the Academy can support you in your career.

Eligibility

Only residents in their PGY2 year are eligible for this program. Participation is not guaranteed until formal confirmation is received from AAPM&R.

While the Academy would like to include all interested PGY2 residents, space is limited to maintain the quality of education and interaction during the courses. To help the Academy ensure that the courses are as inclusive as possible, all interested PGY2s are asked to complete a brief application and submit a CV. The Academy is looking to include attendees who represent diverse institutions and backgrounds.

Applicants must be members of AAPM&R to be considered. If you are not currently a member, your application will not be reviewed until a membership application is received.

Location

The course will be held at the ASGE Institute for Training and Technology located in Downers Grove, IL, easily accessible from either O’Hare or Midway airports.  All events will be held at this location.

Hotel information will be made available shortly.

Application Process

Participation in the course is not guaranteed until you receive confirmation from the Academy. The timeline for the application process is as follows:

  • The application deadline is January 15
  • Invited applicants for both courses will be notified no later than February 25
    • Note, applicants will be confirmed for one course date and changes may not be possible; please only indicate the dates you will be able to attend and keep those dates open on your calendar.  If your availability changes before February 25, please email education@aapmr.org as soon as possible.
  • Invited applicants will be asked to confirm their participation no later than March 10 so that additional applicants may be invited if availability has changed.
  • The courses will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 and May 31-June 1.  Attendees will be asked to fly in any time on Friday prior to the course.  The course will conclude by 12:30 pm (CT) on Sunday.  Dinner will be provided on Saturday evening.
