Graduate Medical Education (GME) Corner

Being a program and fellowship director requires you to be up-to-date on the latest changes regarding the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR), and other environmental factors that affect GME training. As AAPM&R continues to bring together the GME community, which includes program and fellowship directors from ACGME Accredited and Non-Accredited programs, the Academy’s GME Committee has developed this webpage to make it easier for you to navigate and keep current on these changes.

These resources are here to help those that are new to their position or simply need information on the latest updates regarding ACGME. Additionally, the GME Committee has provide other resources related to educational content we think all residents should participate in, links to articles all directors should be aware of, and have provided links to the latest activities the GME Committee and Academy have been involved with.

• Does the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Self-Assessment Examination for Residents Predict the Chances of Passing the Part 1 Board Certification Examination?
  • Massagli TL, Gittler MS, Raddatz MM, Robinson LR. PMR. 2016 Jun 16. pii: S1934-1482(16)30191-5.
  • This study looked at the correlation between raw scores on the SAE-R and scaled scores on the ABPMR Part 1 Examination. The conclusion was that SAE-R scores provide some information on the likelihood of passing ABPMR Part I, meaning the SAE-R can be used as a tool to give residents an idea of their level of knowledge.
