  • Cheri Blauwet, MD, FAAPMR, instructor at Harvard Medical School and sports medicine physiatrist at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, was recognized on International Women’s Day last week by the International Paralympic Committee.   • Deitrick L. Cox, MD, FAAPMR, recently joined OrthoAtlanta Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Specialists in Austell, GA. Dr. Cox provides non-surgical orthopedic care, including non-surgical spine, musculoskeletal medicine, and functional medicine to patients suffering muscular, nerve, joint, and tendon injuries. Congratulations on the new position, Dr. Cox! Read more.
  • David Crandell, MD, FAAPMR, medical director of the amputee program at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, is featured in this New York Times article discussing former Marine Dan Lasko's new prosthetic leg that allows him to go straight from walking to swimming, while matching the power of his other intact leg. Lasko had the opportunity to test the leg, and the device should become available in about 6 months. Read more.
  • Peter C. Esselman, MD, FAAPMR, professor and chair of PM&R at the University of Washington and AAPM&R Vice President, discusses the recovery of a Mount Vernon police officer who went blind after he was shot in the head while on duty back in December. Read more.
  • Michelle S. Gittler, MD, FAAPMR, medical director at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, spoke to NBC News in Chicago just days after it was reported that it has been 2 years since Chicago went a day without shootings. Dr. Gittler helps gunshot victims recover from their injuries and explains that this is a public health crisis. Read more.

  • David Hryvniak, DO, FAAPMR, assistant professor of PM&R at the University of Virginia, discusses sports medicine and how he helps keep athletes healthy. Dr. Hryvniak also manages the Runner’s Clinic, along with 2 other physicians, where he helps patients regain the fitness necessary to return to running or other physical activities. Read more.

  • Chloe Slocum, MD, FAAPMR, was named to the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Disability Policy Consortium. Dr. Slocum is a 2016-2017 Commonwealth Fund Mongan Fellow in Minority Health Policy at Harvard Medical School and a staff physician at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, MA.
