HHS Extends Public Health Emergency

Members & Publications

October 14, 2022

On Thursday October 13, the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced a renewal of the ongoing Public Health Emergency (PHE).  Documentation of this extension can be found on the PHE website.  The PHE will be up for renewal in January 2023.  HHS has indicated that it will provide 60 days' notice prior to the termination of the public health emergency.  This advanced warning is intended to allow time to prepare for the expiration of the many waivers associated with the PHE.  AAPM&R will be closely monitoring alerts from HHS in the coming months so as to keep members informed on this important issue.  For information about the transition of waivers following the PHE, visit the Academy website.  Additionally, your Academy health policy staff will be available in Baltimore at the Member Resource Center to answer any PHE waiver-related questions.

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Nov 09, 2020

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills.

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
