How is AAPM&R Getting Involved?
AAPM&R is a member of the Commission on Cancer (CoC). The CoC, established by the American College of Surgeons in 1922, is a consortium of more than 50 professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education, and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care.
Academy member Julie K. Silver, MD, FAAPMR, attending physician at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and associate professor at Harvard Medical School, will serve as our new liaison to the Commission. Dr. Silver takes over for Eric Wisotzky, MD, FAAPMR, who served as our liaison for the past 3 years.
AAPM&R members include physiatrists who are experts in the rehabilitation of cancer patients and survivors, and can provide critical cancer rehabilitation expertise to the CoC. PM&R prides itself in being a collaborative specialty, and working with the CoC will strengthen both patient care and further integration of physiatry into cancer rehabilitation.
Thank you, Dr. Silver and Dr. Wisotzky, for serving the Academy and helping move PM&R forward!
