CertLink®: A Statement from the AAPM&R Board of Governors

Your Academy (AAPM&R) has been the leading voice for the specialty in requesting a change in Maintenance of Certification® (MOC®) and we are now seeing a positive response to our efforts. On Friday, April 26, the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR) announced the successful pilot of, and the formal transition to, CertLink®. We want to thank the leadership of ABPMR for their commitment to our specialty, willingness to have an ongoing, progressive dialogue with us, and for their work to evolve MOC® Part III, as exemplified through their announcement. The elimination of the high-stakes exam is a positive step toward a more meaningful, less arduous, and less costly process.

We continue to ensure that all aspects of the MOC® process are addressed in our discussions with ABPMR leadership and the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). As is consistent with our MOC® position statement, we continue to urge for the immediate suspension of Part IV/PIP and to further refine and clarify the path for those who are currently MOC III eligible to transition, so they are not penalized.

Together, we made the voice of our specialty heard, and we are seeing collaborative and progressive action because of it. To all of our members who advocate with us for reform, thank you. Our efforts on behalf of the specialty continue, and we appreciate your support and engagement along the way.

 

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
