PM&R—your Academy’s official scientific journal—has reached a new milestone. We are happy to announce that PM&R just received its 2017 Impact Factor of 1.85—the highest impact factor for PM&R to date. The Journal Impact Factor (Journal Citation Reports, Clarivate Analytics, 2018) is a citation metric that provides a relative measure of the quality of papers published. It is a ratio of the total number of citations received in a given year relative to the number of papers published during the 2 preceding years.
This new milestone further elevates PM&R's stature among the best-of-the-best prestigious scientific journals, while continuing to promote the important work of physiatry.
“PM&R is not only a valuable benefit for AAPM&R members, it is a source of evidence-based knowledge and innovation for the specialty of physiatry,” stated AAPM&R President, Darryl Kaelin, MD, FAAPMR. “This increase is the result of the continued hard work of the journal’s editorial board, led by Editor-in-Chief Stuart M. Weinstein, MD, FAAPMR, as well as the valuable submissions provided by physiatrists and institutions around the world. This milestone is wonderful for the Academy, but more importantly it’s a success for the specialty.”
Researchers in some of the leading academic institutions in PM&R help advance the impact of the journal. The top contributing institutions for citations include:
- Northwestern University/Shirley Ryan AbilityLab
- Mayo Clinic
- University of Washington
- University of California System
- Harvard University
- Pennsylvania Commonwealth System of Higher Education (PCSHE)
- Stanford University
- University of Texas System
- VA Boston Healthcare System
- Cornell University
The Academy launched this peer-reviewed journal in 2009 specifically for the physical medicine and rehabilitation physician. PM&R was selected for MEDLINE indexing later that year. The goal of the publication is to advance education and impact the specialty through the timely delivery of clinically-relevant and evidence-based research and review information.
Discussing the mission of the publication, Dr. Weinstein remarks, “Our goal over time is for the journal to be an icon within the specialty of PM&R. It will be a vehicle for publishing all areas of primary physiatric research as well as scientific reviews, point-counterpoint debates, ethical legal discussions, and other scientific and clinically-relevant information.”
This impressive Impact Factor will also help the journal attract more high-quality submissions from both U.S. and international researchers. Help elevate the journal to be the go-to resource for rehabilitation by submitting your research to PM&R at www.ees.elsevier.com/pmrjournal.
