Your Academy is pleased to announce that Bruce Gans, MD, is the 2016 Frank H. Krusen, MD, Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Dr. Gans is receiving the Academy’s highest honor, which is given to a member who has provided outstanding and unique contributions to the specialty of PM&R in the areas of patient care, research, education, literary contributions, community service, and involvement in AAPM&R activities. Dr. Gans is the executive vice president and chief medical officer for the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, NJ, the national medical director for rehabilitation for Select Medical, the parent company for Kessler, and physical medicine and rehabilitation professor at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Gans, served as AAPM&R President in 2005, received the AAPM&R Distinguished Member Award in 2008, and delivered the Academy’s 34th Annual Walter J. Zeiter Lecture in 2001. Dr. Gans has also published extensively, and has held more than $10 million in research and educational grants from the public and private sectors. He received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, his MS in biomedical electronic engineering from the Moore School of Engineering, and completed his residency at the University of Washington.
His generous commitment, extensive service, and continued leadership have been invaluable to the Academy and to the specialty.
