PM&R Journal—Ask the Author Video Series

Watch your Academy’s new “Ask the Author” video series from the PM&R Journal! This series further explores an author’s research and allows the PM&R Journal editors to pose questions to authors that expand upon or call out certain aspects of their research that may be of interest to viewers. Now available is the series that focuses on dry needling of myofascial trigger points. Look for additional “Ask the Author” videos—coming soon!

The Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCPI) Spring 2016 Conference was held April 14-15 in Washington, DC. Your Academy and Liaison to the PCPI, Dr. Wickremashinge were in attendance to learn more about the PCPI’s future direction and hear from exceptional speakers on the future of MACRA. Learn more.

CMS Requests Comments on Percutaneous Image-Guided Lumbar Decompression (PILD) National Coverage Determination (NCD)

On January 9, 2014, CMS posted its final National Coverage Determination (NCD 150.13) covering percutaneous image-guided lumbar decompression (PILD) for beneficiaries with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) when provided in a prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study meeting certain conditions under the Coverage with Evidence Development (CED) determination. CMS has received a complete formal request for a reconsideration of the January 9, 2014 PILD NCD, which limits coverage to prospective, randomized, controlled clinical studies.   • Malcolm D. Reid, MD, MPP, chairman of the PM&R department at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West, took office as president of the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) at its annual House of Delegates meeting in Tarrytown, NY on April 17. Congratulations, Dr. Reid! Learn more.

  • Jason L. Zaremski, MD, CAQSM, FACSM, assistant professor and co-medical director of the adolescent and high school outreach program at the University of Florida College of Medicine, has been selected to be a member of the United States Olympic Committee Medical Volunteer Program. He will spend 2 weeks in June at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center (OTC). His duties will include working in the sports medicine clinics as well as assisting with the following sports: weightlifting, men’s gymnastics, modern pentathlon, triathlon, shooting, greco-roman wrestling, men’s and women’s freestyle wrestling, and paralympic swimming. Congratulations, Dr. Zaremski!
