"Many patients treated for head injuries do not receive follow-up care, study indicates"

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (5/25, Fazio) reported researchers have found that “fewer than half of patients who received treatment for a head injury were given follow-up care including educational materials about their condition or secondary appointments.” The findings were published in JAMA Network Open.

HealthDay (5/25, Reinberg) reported that between 3.2 million and 5.3 million Americans “live with long-term health effects from a traumatic brain injury, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.” 

 

Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
