Dr. Whiteson Featured on Podcast Discussing Long COVID

On January 26, Jonathan Whiteson, MD, FAAPMR, Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Medical Director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at NYU Langone Health, Rusk Rehabilitation, was featured on the Johns Hopkins' podcast, Public Health on Call, discussing Long COVID/PASC. He specifically talked about how physiatrists are well positioned to treat these patients, what AAPM&R is doing and what we're continuing to learn about treating patients with Long COVID symptoms. AAPM&R Advocates for Federal Support of Long COVID Clinics

We recently began advocating for a federal grant program to support Long COVID multi-disciplinary clinics. We believe that this program would address priority needs for Long COVID clinics, including health equity and access to care, workforce capacity as well as data collection and information sharing. Legislation Introduced to Alleviate Impact of Conversion Factor Cut for 2021

Last month, two bills were introduced in the House proposing solutions to the estimated 10.6% Physician Fee Schedule conversion factor cut expected to go into effect January 1, 2021.  The bills offer some relief to the cut, but do not reflect a comprehensive or long-term solution.  AAPM&R has therefore chosen to remain neutral regarding these bills. 

Your Academy continues to advocate for a permanent solution to the conversion factor cut while maintaining the important payment increases to office and outpatient evaluation and management services.
