Bylaws

During the Business Meeting, fellows will be asked to vote on proposed amendments to the AAPM&R Bylaws:

Nominating Committee Composition

In keeping with the Academy’s commitment to improve the Nominating process for the slate of elected officials, the AAPM&R Board of Governors is recommending the addition of the Academy’s Executive Director to the composition of the AAPM&R Nominating Committee as an ex officio non-voting member. An important and unique value the Executive Director would provide to the process is the perspective from a broad scope of understanding and commitment to the mission/vision, the initiatives and strategies, and the skill sets needed to address future challenges to the specialty and the Academy. The recommended Bylaws amendment is reflected below:

Section E.     Standing Advisory Committees. The Academy shall have the following standing advisory committees:

1.    Nominating Committee.

a.     Composition. Nominating Committee shall consist of five (5) six (6) members, and shall include the Immediate Past-President who shall serve as Chairman, the past-president from the preceding year (more recent chairman of the committee), and the current President, each of whom shall serve a one (1) year term. The Academy's Executive Director shall serve as ex officio, non-voting member. The other two (2) members of the Committee shall be Members-at-Large who must be either Fellow, Senior Fellow and/or Part-Time Fellow members of the Academy, but shall not be members of the incoming or outgoing Board. The Members-at-Large shall be elected by the membership in accordance with the following Subsection E.1.b of this Article.

Gender-Neutral Language

In keeping with the Academy’s commitment to Diversity & Inclusion, the Academy’s Bylaws were revised officially by member vote at the 2018 Business Meeting to transition to gender-neutral language. Two “Chairman” references were inadvertently left out of the 2018 transition to gender-neutral language. The recommended Bylaws amendment is reflected below:

Section E.     Standing Advisory Committees. The Academy shall have the following standing advisory committees:

1.    Nominating Committee.

a.    Composition.  Nominating Committee shall consist of five (5) members, and shall include the Immediate Past-President who shall serve as Chairman Chair, the past-president from the preceding year (more recent chairman chair of the committee), and the current President, each of whom shall serve a one (1) year term.
